Global Warming.. problems and solutions

Global warming is now seen as the nature’s most dangerous enemy. Starting from rises in temperatures to increases in sea level. Many cities and islands will be covered in water if nothing is done by the next century. (Pidwirny)
Carbon dioxide emissions tend to trap the heat waves that are supposed to leave the atmosphere causing rises in temperature by 1 F every year and this process is referred to as the greenhouse effect. (Lerner and Lerner)
One of the main contributors is transportation; and more than 30% of the carbon dioxide emissions in US are caused by transportation. 88% of the transportation trips in US are done by using cars, that’s why transportation is big reason. (Walsh)
Another contributor is burning of fossil fuels. Coal is known as one of the main sources of carbon dioxide and 50% of the electricity power plants in the US are relying on coal. (Gum bel)
In addition, households are also contributing to the CO2 emissions. Changing the way people consume power massively is not impossible yet it’s challenging. (Buechner).
Solving the transportation obstacle requires both individual and common efforts. Taking the bus instead of using large numbers of cars can reduce the emissions greatly. 1.4 billion gal a year can be saved using public transit which means 14 million tons of CO2 emission according to the American Public Transportation Association. Another alternative is bus rapid transit; it has extra parallel lanes running at once. It also runs on hybrid and compressed natural gas engines. (Walsh)
The solution to the Industrial impact on the other hand is lacking a lot of scientific information. A new method of capturing the carbon is being developed. This new technology is being tested in various countries. In Norway an energy firm is capturing the emissions and injecting them into saline aquifer under the North Sea (Gumbel). As for households, individuals can use the low power rating light bulbs, these economic light bulbs consume one-quarter the electricity and live several more years compared to the normal light bulbs. (Buechner).
In my opinion, the only way to resolve this problem is by starting at the individual level to affect governments. Our carbon footprint must be reduced by changing our life style starting by taking the bus to changing our light bulbs. We keep our end of the deal hoping that governments will keep theirs.

Cool city

There are some problems that the world is facing and all of them are results of the industrial revolution such as increases in energy consumption, rise in population, increases the amount of and traffic delay. However we need another planet to live in if we don’t stop the impacts of those results.

We need to decrease the amount of the carbon dioxide to 50% to keep our planet. In Japan during the last 30 years GDP has gone up 200% while energy efficiency has increased 37% and oil consumption has decreased 8%. Building and transportation are involved of 90% of the carbon dioxide emitted. (Cool City Video)
Some of the scientists found some cities such as the Cool City as a solution to prevent the pollution by using special energy saving features. And the idea of it came from a Japanese company called Sustainable Development Consortium of Japan. Three types of transportation vehicles will be used there, Light Rail Transit, Solar ships and Hybrid cars. There will be a lot of zones such as residential, culture and business, sport public and resort zone and there will be some reduction technologies like recycled cool air, water and trees. (Cool City Video)
A country such as UAE needs to have such a city like this, because of the rise in temperatures and the high percentage of humidity, which make people consume massive amounts of energy. (Bradley, 2008)

I think Cool City is a good idea. However, people might not accept this life style due to the luxury life they are living now.

Carbon Footprint

Carbon footprint is the amount of the greenhouse gases that produced by human, directly or indirectly, while he’s doing his normal activates in life. It’s measured by how many planets (Earths) could those activates pollute.

I used two sites to measure my carbon footprint; they ask some questions about four important things in our life; food, travel, home and stuff. And all of them are consuming energy (Footprint; My Footprint).

The main problem that the most of my classmates got a very high rank, and the average is about 3 planets each, I got the highest rank 5.9, and I’m not proud of it at all. UAE has got the highest rank in the world even more than US, UK and India. And our class average explains it.

What UAE is doing now is a very nice thing and it shows how the country is positive and serious about this problem. I think people in the UAE should be aware of this problem, because someone careless like me doesn’t realize what the world is facing will not know if nobody told him.

And people that are so addict to meat should be healthier and being balanced. Recycling is word that everybody in UAE knows it but doesn’t do it, because the country instead of recycling they are burning which means more pollution. The last thing and most important thing is the transportation, the percentage of cars is very high comparing to people and the percentage of the cars number’s increasing every year is very high too. And in my opinion the people should cooperate with the country by using the general transportation because it’s better for traffic and environment, and they can use their own transportation just in emergency.

In my opinion a country like UAE, a big producer of greenhouse gases should be responsible at least in the area where we are located, and be careful about what they are doing in future.

some reviews about the An Inconvenient Truth

Everybody in this world has the right to have his own opinion. With Al Gore’s movie, the “An Inconvenient Truth”, people are divided to those who liked it and who didn’t, the problem in my opinion that the most of who didn’t like the movie, are really those don’t like Al Gore or that how Al Gore presents the movie.

As a political leader A. O. Scott, Newi York Times thinks that Al Gore shouldn’t do the movie, and the way that Mr. Gore was presenting as Mr. Scott said he was making fun instead of being serious. When he stopped talking about Al Gore and started to mention the movie or the movie’s idea, he said that the idea should been made as movie but the visual aids are a bit silly but the most of the images are really good. He likes the idea but he doesn’t like that Al Gore is the presenter. (A.O. Scott, New York Times)

Roger Ebert an internet writer, liked the movie and the idea, he was so positive that a political man talked about this serious problem which the world is facing it. He liked how Al Gore showed people how the earth looks like and how it will look like, he liked the pictures and how the movie is supported by dramatic visuals. (R. Ebert, www.rogerebert.com)

In my opinion someone like Al Gore should do the movie, the way he talks and present the problem makes you staring at him and believe each word that he says. I liked that he was sometimes making fun, because the movie is bit long so it needs to make people awake to watch the rest of it. I liked the pictures and the directing, it gave the movie more realty and it shows how important is the problem to them.

An Inconvenient Truth

Because the global warming is a big issue, many people have talked about it; everyone with his own way. Al Gore is one of them, but as a political man it was weird for me that he made a movie about the global warming, it called an inconvenient truth. It’s a movie with a Al Gore giving a literature to a big group of people.
First he talked about the causes and according to what Al said, carbon dioxide is the main reason of the global warming because it increase the emission of the greenhouse and the main reason of the increasing of the carbon dioxide is that people now just rely on the new technologies and they don’t want to stop or even decrease using the fossil fuel, and how the population is rising which cause more using of the technologies and fossil fuels.
Then he mentioned the melting ice, which when it was white ice it reflect the sun emissions but when it become water is absorbing more heat from the sun which make the sea hot and cause more melting ice and that called the feedback cycle.
Al Gore thinks that if Americans just follow the Kyoto agreement, which is the only solution at the moment, is the best way to solve the global warming problem, and by using more efficient machines, higher mileage care, other transport efficiency and renewable technology.
He was really serious about Carbon capture sequestration, and that Americans did it before and they can do it again.

Global Main Problem

Global warming is the increase in the earth’s surface temperature; the world is facing this problem since the mid-twentieth century.[1] There are many natural causes which keep increase the earth temperature such as the greenhouse gasses, solar variation and volcanoes. In the other hand there are many causes that are human caused such as industrial output, fossil fuel (oil, gas and coal) and population; all of them are causing the increase in the carbon dioxide amount which is a very important element that has a hand in global warming.
Greenhouse gasses are increasing every year; heaters, coolers and ACs are the main source of those gasses. All countries warm or cold are part in this problem; countries with big population are more responsible because they consume more energy than others. They should work at finding alternatives to high numbers of cars, motorbikes and trains that powered by oil or coal.

We are already seeing the effect of global warming, in Europe the winter became shorter and warmer, and in Antarctica the ice begin to melt. Some countries like in south eastern Asia have faced a lot of floods, and I believe that the melting ice in south and north poles is the main cause of that.
